The artist is a man in his 40's. He makes art. He strives in his artwork to reach some lucid aesthetic that would clearly and eloquently express his world-view but, due to bad luck (or, more likely) carelessness, the aesthetic gets stained or fogs up and, disappointed, goes to play with some other artist. But he doesn't give up (or maybe he'd rather give up, but what choice does he actually have?)
